Getting Away

A recent ritual we've developed is getting away to spend time at home in the forest. It feels so much different than being in the city. The sound in the forest is so soft ... hearing the birds chirp and the wood peckers knocking ... the strongest roar being the wind blowing through the trees.
Winter is coming here in California and it's beginning to get chilly. It's such a nice time of year to walk the woods or browse around the garden ... sipping a warm cup of tea or morning coffee ... taking a minute to sit down for some inspirational reading. The misty fog in the mornings is my favorite ... it closes off the distance and makes things even more quiet and calming.
Here are some photos from our recent little shoot. Hope you enjoy the inspiration ... ;)

An Egg Story
I definitely have a fondness in my heart for eggs...
I definitely have a fondness in my heart for eggs. Each morning I get an egg for breakfast makes me happy and gives me such a homie feeling ... they are a big comfort food for me. Another thing I enjoy about eggs is how simple yet striking they are ... the bright white paired with the rich yoke coloring. They offer so many different styles depending on how they are prepared ... keeping things different and allowing you to be creative.
I thought it would be fun to imagine what an egg would do during his free time with other eggs. Imagining how they would play around and hang out with each other ... or maybe even help each other out when they are in need of a rescue ... :)
Hope you enjoy our short little egg story ...

I feel like I've made a lot of new friends through my Instagram. Each day I enjoy spending time getting lost in the images and finding inspiration .. there are so many amazing artists out there to admire. I recently had the pleasure to chat with this amazing artist Chris Schoonover (instagram & vsco). I love his photographs ... they are so bold and simple at the same time with subtle hidden messages. I asked Chris for a few pointers and insights and wanted to share with you all. I figured this was a great opportunity to introduce a new series I want to feature from time to time titled "Photo Makers." I also want to thank Chris for sharing and helping me kick off this new series.
Tell us a little about you?
My name is Chris Schoonover and I am a photographer based in New York City. I mostly take portraits of models and people from my life/travels.
How long have you been a photographer?
I've been a photographer since August 2013 when I got my first camera. Before that I was just using my phone.
What have been some of the most rewarding aspects of being a photographer?
I've gotten to work through a lot of my problems by taking photos. It takes my mind off of things for a while and I get to make something I like and can share with people. I think it gives me something to offer to people.
Where do you find your inspiration? What do you do to get inspired?
I find my inspiration a lot of times from other fashion and art photographers. I'm constantly looking at contemporary art photo books to get ideas. Tumblr is also one of my favorite places to find new and old photography.
What is your current fav topic to shoot and why?
Recently I've been working on a project with my brother where we are photographing pro wrestlers. It's been fun to see and learn about that subculture and photograph it in a way that's unfamiliar to the sport. I've also been photographing models In everyday situations and making it seem a bit dreamy. As long as it's aesthetically pleasing, I'll shoot it.
What is your fav camera lens or is there any specific equipment you love?
I shoot with a canon 5d mark 2, but I think my favorite would be my Fuji x100s. It's easy to carry around and takes away the burden of carrying around a ton of gear.
Do you have any simple tips or advice you could share to help be a better photographer?
Make sure you're always looking at other photographers work. You have to study so you know what has and hasn't been done. Go and take photos of things even if it makes you a bit uncomfortable. People like to look at things that are unfamiliar. Finally, take photos of things that you like. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. Focus on what you are doing and make it count.
Thanks for stopping by ... hope you enjoy the inspiration ... ;)

When I was growing up, I always wanted to be a sporty kind of person. I joined a handful of teams and tried to keep as active as I could. I was a swimmer ... a gymnast ... I played volleyball ... and was on a badminton team or two ... ( ^ - ^ )
Trying all kinds of sports, seeing what sticks, and what I most connected with. After a while, I realized I enjoy sleeping and walking mostly ... wait I lied, I secretly love street dancing too. Can dreaming be a sport? I would like to play for that team too ... ( ^ o ^ )
Rob and I were thinking of ways to be a little more "sporty" and active, so we decided to start doing some morning walks. Trying to explore little spots of the city that we don't often get to see.
This week we took a trip out to Ocean beach and stopped by Andytown Coffee Roasters for a cup of coffee and some delicious muffins. A nice little neighborhood coffee shop where you are sure to receive a smile a quick conversation to get your day going.
We wiggled our way down to the beach and spent some time just taking in the breeze and ocean air before heading home. It's crazy to me how powerful beach environments can be. The beach always instantly relaxes me and lets me think a little less about things ... the air has a refreshing quality which is always what I remember feeling ... looking back and scanning through all my memories of being at the beach.
One of our highlights along the walk was meeting Pete ... an older italian man on his daily exercise routine. Pete has lived in the Outer Sunset for 50 years. He was telling us these wonderful stories about the neighborhood and how different things were back then. These days he just enjoys his walks along the beach and tries to keep life simple ... some advice I'm going to focus on ... ;)
We also stumbled upon this little Woodshop ... a beautiful space that we were admiring through the window. We were lucky enough to strike up a conversation and meet Danny as he was leaving for the airport. He gave us a quick tour of the workshop before he lift ... what a cool space and showroom. If you're interested in custom surfboard, cool chairs, furniture, or art pieces don't forget to make an appointment to check them out.
Thanks for dropping by ...

Another week has passed ...
With our new coffee machine I've spent a lot of time at home making my own cappuccino. I'm still practicing to make wonderful patterns on the foam, but far from being a barista anytime soon ... lol
I feel like we've been nesting at home working on projects more lately. Waking up and seeing all the flowers blooming, I am fascinated by how they can change just within a few hours it seems like. I try to capture them in different ways before they go ...
I have a confession to make .... I was fighting with my breakfast this weekend and it got pretty bad ... and messy ...
Confession #2 ... I've been watching a lot of Dexter too ...
We've have been wanting to check this space out Sable Cafe. I feel in love with the decor and space. Wonderful natural light coming in from the large front windows with a calm environment to have simple lunch and coffee. They also have a pretty flower shop called Lila B located in the spacious courtyard.
Every week while Rob and I go for a walk, we often times pass by this beautiful house Alfred Clarke Mansion. One day I would love to look inside, jump around with my Jambox, and be a pretend princess for a hot second ...
Meanwhile this week sayhellomax has lots of lovely blazers and my monochrome outfit. It was really fun for me to find the right location for the shoot and look we are going for.
The guy up there ^ made a fun mix this weekend ... Hope you enjoy!

We always pass by places on walks and this week we decided to sneak into one. Corona Heights Park was a nice easy and casual hike with a great view up at the top. It's nice to always get a different perspective or look onto San Francisco.
We also stopped in Potrero Hill and checked out this coffee house Front. Cool interior design and use of an old loading dock with yummy coffee.
We love projects so sometimes we swing by Building Resources to hunt some fun stuff to play around and get creative with. They have really great recycled materials, art displays, and all sorts funky finds.
Til next time...

Since I have lots of pictures, I recently decided to begin sharing some here. My husband and I enjoy little projects, as well as taking walks and local adventures around the bay area. I wanna share some of the things I've enjoyed so hopefully you will too...
Breakfast is for egg lovers... and for me more often then not.
I found a few new topics and interests that I have been noticing myself capturing more often lately. The first is old architectural buildings that are so beautiful when maintained. I feel like San francisco is a city that has tons of them to be discovered.
Second is flowers... I find them so calm and beautiful with so much to admire, but I'm not so good at taking care of them. I guess in order not to kill them I've been trying to learn more about them... by capturing and spending more time with them... hehe
I really want a vintage car some day. They have so much fun character to them...
